The Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary
Australia's leading environmental wildlife experience!
The award-winning Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary is Australia’s leading environmental wildlife experience, providing visitors with a chance to observe up close a huge range of flora and fauna. Situated at Port Douglas, Tropical North Queensland, Rainforest Habitat was constructed in 1988 on 8 acres (2 hectares) of land that has been recreated to provide a window into our natural environment. With an Advanced Ecotourism Accreditation, Rainforest Habitat is committed to conservation via its Wildlife Rescue program, ensuring that injured, orphaned, or sick animals are looked after in a professional and caring manner.
3 different environments are depicted:
The Wetlands
An array of wading birds can be viewed foraging for fish and crustaceans in waterways alongside a host of macropods, black-necked storks, fruit bats, and a multitude of bird species. Breakfast with the Birds or Lunch with the Lorikeets and experience the symphony of sounds and colours of wildlife as they wander freely amongst the tables as you enjoy North Queensland’s best buffet experience.
The Grasslands
This open-air exhibit portrays both inland and coastal plains, where you can hand-feed kangaroos, wallabies, and observe Lumholtz’s Tree Kangaroos, emus and crocodiles. As well as free guided tours throughout the day, learn fascinating facts about pythons, koalas and crocodiles at the Presentation Hut, with an opportunity for a souvenir photo holding these animals (optional extra).
The Rainforest
A lush, tranquil environment where native species such as Boyd's Forest Dragon, Eclectus Parrots and the magnificent Southern Cassowary can be viewed in a natural setting. Boardwalks meander along the forest floor to the rainforest canopy.
